What do you mean when you use the term 'systemic'? |
|
I use the terms ‘systemic’, ‘integrated/holistic’ and ‘ecologic’ synonymously. And a lot of this understanding is based on the work of Fritjof Capra, the fields of Systems Thinking and Holistic Science, as well as the worldview of many indigenous people. Basis to a systemic understanding of life is the idea that 'one species waste is another species food' and that on this planet earth there is a continual cyclical flow of matter and energy. The basic pattern of life, which is common to all living systems (organisms, ecosystems, social systems) is the network. Between all components of living systems there is a network of connections through which a constant energy flow takes place. The sum of the parts / the components of a system makes more than one would expect when examining them separately.
In other words:
'The new way of looking at reality is based on the realization that all phenomena - physical, biological, psychological, social and cultural - are basically connected with each other and dependend from each other.' Fritjof Capra
'We are not living creatures within dead materials (air, water, stone), but we have an influence on these and change them. We breathe the air, in us circulates the blood and our bones consist of what was before us and will be part of what comes after us.' James Lovelock
